Whoever said everything’s better when you can bring along your dog (I think it was actually me who said it, just now) is right, as we found out yesterday when we took Cooper to watch the Charleston RiverDogs play the Rome Braves during Dog Day at the Joe in Charleston. We got there plenty early to get Cooper used to being in a crowd, and, so we could scope out all the cute dogs as they were arriving. Though it was my intention to get up close and personal with all the furry fans, Cooper had a bit of a meltdown when I left his side for 5 minutes, so, I ended up being more of a “puperazzi”, catching people and their pups off-guard from my seat in the bleachers, with Cooper close by my side.
Cooper settled in nicely once we got up high enough in the stands so that he could keep an eye on everything happening in the stadium and on the field:
Even people who were there rooting for the “wrong” team brought their dog to enjoy the game:
It was obvious some dogs couldn’t wait to get to their seats:
Man and his best friend:
Love the colors and the light on this pup. He kept us entertained for some time with his seat acrobatics while he was trying to reach Cooper:
“Hey! Whatcha got there? Water? Popcorn? YES YES YES!!!”
“I’m startin’ to get the hang of these seats…”
Even pups work up quite a thirst at the game:
This guy (or gal?) gets all the points for style:
Nothin’ better than watchin’ the game from your mom’s lap:
Some dogs were more interested in scoping out other dogs in the stands than watching the game:
Charlie the RiverDog making new friends and signing the back of a lucky fan’s shirt: (love the boys’ expressions)
It doesn’t get much more perfect than this:
Everything’s more fun when you can bring along your pooch:
“Hey, check me out! I got this cool RiverDogs shirt!”
“Did we enter through the wrong gate mom? I didn’t get a shirt…”
Actually, he was facing backwards checking out this cute little brother from another mother:
Oh yeah…meanwhile, there WAS actually a baseball game going on…in this case, runners on 1st and on 3rd, and RiverDog #24 Anderson Feliz hits a ground ball just to the pitcher’s right and towards the outfield:
The runner from third base is set to score, unless they throw Anderson out at first…the ball is in the air…the runner is almost at first base….
…but the ball is thrown wide, the runner at first is safe, and the RiverDogs SCORE!!!!
OK…back to the cute dogs:
Wonder how she’s going to carry back the food and drinks from the concession stand!?
The RiverDogs ended up winning the game 1-0 which made the whole evening perfect. We can’t wait to bring Cooper back again on April 22 for the Bark for your Brew dog-friendly craft beer tasting at the Joe, with a game between the RiverDogs and the West Virginia Power to follow. Hope to see you there!
Na lang beraad hebben wij onze keuze laten vallen op de hond genaamd “I’m startin’ to get the hang of these seats…”.
Cooper and his dark little brother are the most beautiful dogs.
Nice, a dog-day at baseball. I think we don’t have anything like that in Holland but we don’t have the River Dogs.

CVRC will be sponsoring the “Charleston Veterinary Referral Center supports the Boo Radley Foundation” Dog Day game night at the Charleston Riverdogs game the evening of June 10th. 3,000 baseball fans are welcome to bring their dogs to the park that night, learn more about the Boo Radley Foundation, meet CVRC staff and hopefully, donate to the foundation. Boo Radley is a charity that helps pet owners with dogs diagnosed with brain cancer and possible participation in research studies that may lead to better brain cancer treatments in humans.
